After suffering from migraines that made my hair feel like it weighed a ton, I chopped my hair off right before New Years last year. I’m growing it back out, but I doubt I will let it get as long. My issue is that I don’t wash it but once or twice a week, and use dry shampoo or updos the rest of the time. This means by day 3, it was weighed down with hair product and was HEAVY. The migraines were unbearable and cutting the hair legitimately helped.

I know there are many people that have regret once they chop their hair off, so here are my tips (hair stylist approved, btw) to help grow it out! Here is my picture right after I chopped it, and then one taken this week:

  1. Take a vitamin that specializes in hair growth. I use this gummy vitamin from Target and LOVE IT.
  2. Get scheduled trims. Yes, I know that cutting your hair seems counterproductive, but all stylists will agree that a super short trim (“dusting”) off the bottom helps keep split ends at bay- the number one reason to chop more than you need want to. (Make sure you go to someone you trust and they know you’re trying to grow it out.)
  3. Skip the heat tools. Heat is obviously damaging, so try to skip at least one day of heat styling a week. Try an updo/braid on day-old hair or braid wet hair and sleep on it. Instant heat-free waves!
  4. Deep condition. Hair needs to stay in peak condition and one of the best ways to help hair not break off is to keep it from drying out. I love this option or this drugstore option! Use either 1-2 times a week for 10 min. If you feel like it weighs your hair down, skip to once a week.

I hope this helps you grow out your hair or at least give it a bit more TLC! Are any of you currently growing out your hair too? Any tips you’d like to add? I’d love to hear them in the comments!
