As some of you may know my day job is in politics, so due to the nature of the field, we tend to have some evening events. Last night was an event with our Governor so I thought I’d share what a typical “work event” outfit consists of. Sometimes I break out one of my many “Olivia Pope” suits, others (like last night), I rock a little black dress. I always go with a basic, well tailored, conservative dress if I’m not wearing a suit.

**Side tangent-y note: the clothes in the show Scandal for the main character Olivia Pope are FLAWLESS. Flawwwwwwless. Half the time I have to rewind to hear what they said because I’m mesmerized by one of her many coats. **

Ok, tangent over. On to the clothes!!

(Whoa. I look like I’m about to break into song or something.) Got called “Ariel” a lot last night. Yes, I KNOW. Name and hair similarities. I’ve heard it alllllllllllll before.

Notice I still went a bit girlie with the bow belt (so fun!) and the bow details on the purse. I’ve got to have SOMETHING that’s trendy, I mean come on!!

So everyone is going to hate me because none of this stuff except the belt and shoes are new. HOWEVER, I can tell you where to purchase something similar to get the same basic look. 🙂

Dress: Banana Republic (similar, similar, or similar)
Belt: here
Pumps: BCBGeneration “Oslo” here
Watch: Tag Heuer Carerra (similar)
Bracelet: David Yurman (similar)
Clutch: (similar)

My rule for dressing in politics: always go for demure and ladylike because although I LOVE a good fabulously crazy heel- many do not. I keep my fun clothes reserved for other times. It’s sort of a “know your environment” type of thing. Also, since my hair is a bit bright and crazy on its own, I tend to let that be my “pop of color” when I’m at work. 🙂

Hope you enjoyed my LBD and Bows look from last night!
