It is finally chilly outside which is awesome because I can finally wear tights with skirts! The joys of having fair skin- you look forward to tights. 🙂
I firmly believe you can be warm and cute at the same time and I am on a crusade against frumpy outfits. This is a simple take on a basic fall outfit. This formula works in so many ways. Cute sweater + skirt + tights + ankle boots = trendy, yet warm.
Since everyone asks if I wear the same outfit twice (I do, btw. My wardrobe isn’t THAT huge), I thought I’d use a sweater you’ve already seen with a basic black skirt. I like this skirt for a few reasons. One: I ADORE the faux leather detailing. Two: The zipper takes it from modest and demure to edgy. I have it zipped down, but you can unzip it a bit, add heels and rock a bare leg for a bit more edge.
I am obsessed with a pair of black tights. This fall there are really a lot of options for patterned tights if you want to go that route. The staple of the fashion community are the Wolford Opaque Tights and they will run you about $50 a pair. Yes, that’s steep but they are meant to be worn time and time again. If you’re NOT ok with that price tag, Target has some options from Merona that are around $10.
Additionally, I LOVE these new boots from Sam & Libby for Target. I just said a few weeks ago that I have been investing in shoes- trying to not purchase some from Target, etc because I’m running out of closet space. I saw these and HAD TO HAVE THEM. Sorry about the shouty caps, but I adore them. I love the buckle detailing, the high ankle, the contrast between the suede and leather, and the heel has the slightest rounded curve which is very trendy right now. All in all, they’re a win in my book.
I finish off the outfit with my basic black doctor bag and simple jewelry.
This formula is really simple and very versatile. Throw a button up under the sweater. Add a pop of color in the skirt. Change basic for patterned tights. Add a crazy statement necklace.
