Translating trends from the runway is sometimes expensive and unrealistic. One of the wearable trends that I love from the Fall 2013 runways is the over the knee boot. This is totally one of those trends that took a bit of time to grown on me. Visions of Pretty Woman and Julia Roberts in those patent leather knee high boots flashed through my head. Obviously my association with over the knee boots was not a good one. I can gladly say that is no longer the case.
Here’s the inspiration:
I love them. They’re fabulous and chic and sassy all rolled into one. Here are my tips for rocking some amazing over the knee boots:
1. Remember you’re a lady, not a streetwalker. Make sure you wear them over skinnies, or with a longer skirt. Avoid short skirts or shorts. The pairing with either of those is pushing the limits and strays back into Julia Roberts/Pretty Woman territory and that is a no-no.
2. Stick with suede or basic leather in neutral colors. Patent leather is (you guessed it) out. Go with black, brown, grey or tan.
3. Keep the top classy and covered. Although the knee high boots are technically covering more, they offer an allure that should be balanced on the top half. Think structured blazer, button up shirt, cozy sweater- that type of thing.
