FaceToday is round two of three in my “Best Products for Winter” series. Last week I listed my favorite products for the body and today I’m going over my favorites to combat dry skin on your face. If you didn’t see the other post, I would encourage that you check it out here. There’s a few tips for general help battling dry skin that don’t involve products.

Let me start with saying that my skin is sensitive, combination and acne prone. This means my skin is oily in the summer and dry in the winter. In addition, it’s craaaaaaaazy sensitive and using the wrong products can result with breakouts all over my face. It’s the worst. The products I suggest here for the face have been tested by me and I haven’t had any adverse reactions. I also go to a dermatologist, and he’s approved all products based on the sensitivity of my skin. 🙂face products

First up: My Daily Routine

This Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash is the best stuff ever. You can get it at the drugstore and it doesn’t irritate OR dry out my skin. For some reason when I use a cold cream or some sort of moisturizing cleanser, I still break out. This is very gentle and gets everything off. Eye makeup included.

After I wash my face I immediately put on the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. In the summer when my skin is oily, I use the gel version of this. Both are amazing and leave my skin soft and deliver the right amount of moisture. I suggest trying a sample of both and seeing which one you like better.

If your skin is super dry or having an adverse reaction to another product, the Caudalie Moisturizing Mask is a LIFESAVER. You can use it on your entire face or only in areas that you need it. You leave it on for 15 min and then massage in the rest. Guys, I have tried a ridiculous amount of masks claiming to fix dry skin and this is the ONLY ONE I have found that soothes irritated and dry skin without breaking me out. It’s the best. I don’t use it very often, so this tube lasts me all winter.

That’s it. Not sixty million products. Three. Sometimes it’s hard to know which product is working if you have the longest routine ever. Also, you’re less likely to stick with a routine or do it every night and morning if it’s super long. I do have a prescription that I put on before my lotion, but that is only at night.

Beauty Extras:

I have two makeup-related products that I can’t live without in the winter: a BB Cream (of sorts) and a lip balm.

So, the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream is AMAZING. This sucker combines the power of a BB, CC and a tinted moisturizer into one. I got this last year when my skin was mad (Clinique got rid of their lotion and just had the gel for a few months until we all FREAKED OUT and made them bring it back), so I tried this. Magic. I took this to Colorado with us where my skin notoriously dries completely out and it worked marvelously. On days that I don’t want to wear a lot of makeup, I will put this on with a bit on concealer and head out the door. I’m dewy without looking oily. Disclaimer: if you have oily skin you may want to set this with a translucent powder, but it’s magic.

Lastly, the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment is basically the best lip balm on the planet. I know what you’re thinking: “$20 FOR A LIP BALM?!?!” Yes, I know. BELIEVE ME. I know. I have tried every drugstore lip balm ever and they all dry out too fast. I was sick with a cold and thus couldn’t breathe out of my nose- at ALL, and I would put this stuff on my lips before bed and they were still hydrated when I woke up in the morning. Even with me mouth breathing all night. Haha, trust me, this stuff is legit. The colored ones are cute too and I love them, but this stuff is amazing. A lady at Sephora told me she sends it to her husband while he’s deployed because it’s the only thing that works in the heat and dryness of the desert. If that isn’t a tried and true test, I don’t know what is.

Well, that’s it. Nothing complicated, nothing trendy, just products that stand up to my rigorous testing and sensitive skin. Hopefully you’ll find something you love that will work for you listed in the products above.

Do you have a “holy grail” winter beauty product that you can’t live without? I love hearing your favorites!
