After years of running around in professional suits for work, I’m really trying to take advantage of the fact that I don’t need to dress like that specifically at work any more. Although I love the shape that a blazer and suit jacket give, sometimes I want something different than a blazer over jeans or black skinnies. Enter this look.
That skirt is shorter than I normally wear, but it’s not tight which is key. If you want to go shorter, try to keep the silhouette a bit wider. Also since I normally don’t feel like you should show legs AND arms, I kept the top covered up with a neck tie blouse and this longer black blazer with interesting back-slit detailing.
I chose higher boots so that I didn’t have my full legs exposed. That decision was intentional because if I wear a shorter skirt I always wear tall shaft boots or tights. This outfit would look great with tights under the boots or even with some cute round toe block pumps. If you don’t like the taller boots, some cute high ankle booties would work too!
Can we all agree that this outfit reminds you of Cher from Clueless? I have so many comments about that. 🙂 I just can’t do knee high socks and pumps. Caaaaaaaaaan’t do it. Moving on… buy yourself a tie-neck blouse. Do it. I’ve had this sucker for 8 years. I love it and it always adds interest under a suit jacket or blazer!
I’m a firm believer that if your outfit skews a bit younger- you keep your hair/makeup/accessories simple and basic. I love this bag that Ian got me for our anniversary because it’s got the potential to stick a lot of stuff in it. I can throw my laptop or diapers in there and it will still close. #MomLife requirements are interesting, aren’t they? 😉 Photos: Jacque, Inc.
