The older Alexander becomes, the more I find myself wanting to start traditions to continue each year. We bake Christmas cookies, decorate a special tree in his room, and spend as much time with family as possible.
This year has been so busy with the new house nearing completion and I wanted to start a tradition that we could continue each year as he grows but didn’t want to add another “thing” to our busy schedule. The solution was to start a charm bracelet with him choosing a charm to add to it each Christmas.
Alexander was so excited to pick this Nutcracker charm and his eyes lit up every day when he saw me wearing it. He’d ask me to tell him stories about it and that gave me the chance to share my love for the Nutcracker ballet with him. (Which I loved!!!) It was actually the perfect size and weight for a necklace, so this year I wore it around my neck on a longer chain.
He’s already started telling me what my charm he wants to select next year and I love how this can be something special he and Ian and pick out together. I’m notoriously hard to shop for because I shop for a living, and this new tradition makes my heart smile.
I have loved James Avery for decades and their famous cross cutout ring was my first “real” jewelry request at 13. I’ve had it for over 20 years and I still wear it! It has always been a simple way to share my faith and has always been a great conversation starter. Over the years my James Avery collection has grown, and so has my love for the brand. Each item from their collection holds a special place in my heart.
I’m so excited about this new tradition and can’t wait to see which charm Alexander selects each year!
