You know I’m a pretty die-hard Lee jeans girl because the price for the style can’t be beaten (the Anna skinny jeans in the Lakeshore wash are my favorite), but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop reviewing other jeans. I’m all for testing tried and true favorites against products to see how they stack up.

The contenders:

Madewell Roadtripper vs. Madewell 10″ High Rise Skinny

The lowdown

Both are from Madewell and both are incredibly similar washes. The jeans are soft and stretchy denim and other than pocket rivets, there isn’t a hugely discernable difference between the two. The 10″ High Rise Skinny is priced at $135 and the Roadtripper is a significantly lower $75.

Here are a few quick pictures of me wearing each. I apologize for the shots of my bum, but honestly, that makes/sinks a pair of jeans for me. Every client I’ve ever styled immediately checks out their backside once they try on a pair of pants and thus I am giving an honest review- complete with pictures.

The short version of it is this: the 10″ high rise skinnies are the clear winner.

Although they look similar, once on, these jeans were quite different. I got the same size in both, but the Roadtrippers were MUCH too big. I know they’re made to be stretchy, but these are the classic example of a jean stretching out by the end of the day. As I mentioned before, the Lee Anna Skinny doesn’t and it’s only $30. Yes, I said THIRTY. So if I’m going to spend over that I need the jean to be pretty phenomenal. The 10″ Madewell pair has a higher waist (an inch) and that makes ALL the difference. Additionally, they also reinforced the front pockets to hold you in. (They call them “magic pockets,” and they totally deliver.)

I’m slightly on the shorter side, but I love that the 10″ skinny offers FOUR inseam lengths: short, regular (what I got), tall, and taller. As you can see in the picture, I could have picked the short, but wanted to legitimately give you a look at the regular inseam. (I’m almost 5’4.)

I’ve had several other friends that have different body types/sizes than I do offer the same conclusions as well. While the Roadtripper isn’t a bad option, it certainly isn’t close to being the same as the 10″ high rise skinny. If you’re looking for a pair of Madewell jeans, I’d splurge on the more expensive pair. Even at $135 they are less expensive than most designer denim and pack just as much style as those upward of $200. If you do try the Roadtripper jeans, size down at least one size from your normal.
