Dip nails are my new favorite way to give myself a manicure and although I wrote a review months ago, many of you reached out and asked for a tutorial.

TIPS:

  • Start with a lighter color. I used the shade Lovely (D105) because it’s incredibly forgiving while you’re still getting used to the process. A darker color can stain your fingers and look messy if you don’t know what you’re doing.
  • Use good lighting. It’s so much easier to do this when you can see what you’re doing. Although most of my manicures happen at night- I still make sure I can see what I’m doing.
  • Don’t be afraid to file. One of my favorite things about dip nails is the ability to fix mistakes. If I add too much on a layer (too thick) I can just file it down- both on the edge and on the top. A fine grit nail block is the best tool ever for dip nails. In fact, you’re supposed to file it down before you add the top coat at the end.
